History:

I was born on December 31st, 1973 (I just wanted to be born in 1973 by all means) in Heidenheim where I also went to school. In spring 1993 I made my graduation and in the same year I started studying computer science at the University of Stuttgart. Besides studying I am working at a large computer company, doing UNIX and LAN administration.

I got my first computer pretty early: It was March 9th, 1984 (I do remember that day so well because it is my grandpa's birthday) when my parents bought me a used C64 with monitor and datasette. At first I only used it for playing, but soon also tried a few steps in Basic. However, soon after that the Amstrad/Schneider CPCs became very popular and so I sold the C64 again and (using financial support from my parents) purchased a CPC 6128 at Christmas 1985.

After I had seen the graphics and sound capabilities of the Amiga on a friends' machine, I switched over to an Amiga 500 in 1988 (this time paying it almost entirely myself) which I programmed quite a long time in AmigaBasic. This was later followed by Pascal (which I had to learn at school) and C, using freely distributable compilers from Fish disks. Later then I bought an Amiga 1200 (which is used by my mother now) and a used Amiga 3000 which I still work with and won't give away so soon.

Things I use computers for:

• text processing and TeX
• networking (AmiTCP, Envoy) and looking around in BBSes
• programming in ARexx, Oberon and C
• simulation and thinking games (SimCity, Colonization, ...)

Interests / What I like:

• Playing Volleyball and Squash
• Bicycling, but unfortunately almost impossible in Stuttgart :-((
• listening to music and collecting CDs (especially oldies)
• astronomy: observing stars, going to a planetarium
• going to the movies (THX cinemas prefered)
• electronic tinkering
• photographing (I'm very fond of b/w portraits)
• Greenpeace, WWF and other nature protecting organizations
• Honesty and naturalness
• Freeware (thanks to all authors!)
• The book/CD-ROM "A short story of time" by Stephen W. Hawking

What I dislike:

• cigarettes, cigars, tobacco, smoke, etc.
• cleaning windows: "Why should I wipe them? I can still see through!" ;-)
• commercials, most of all in provate TV channels
• monopolists: Microsoft, Intel, German Telekom, ...
• Gravenreuth
• astrology, horoscopes, clair-voyants and all that crap
